Frequently
Asked Questions
• What
is ParklandNews.com?
We're a locally owned and operated news and information
site covering what is commonly called the "Parkland"
of Missouri. This area includes, but is not limited to,
the cities of: Farmington, Desloge, Park Hills, Potosi,
Bonne Terre, Bismarck, Ironton, and surrounding areas.
• Why
is This Area Called the Parkland?
This area previously was a mining area, hence the reason
so many city names are based on the subject of mining.
For example: Leadwood; Ironton; Iron
Mountain; Irondale; Mineral Point, and
others.
Collectively, the area was called both the Mineral Area
and the Leadbelt. Two names that are entirely appropriate
for this area, and two names that can make this area look
"dated."
The "Parkland" sounds more appealing and is
based on the high number of parks that are considered
within driving distance. You can see a list of those parks
here.
