Students Compete at Annual Business Conference

Missouri’s 53rd annual Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership
Conference at Osage Beach on March 23 saw members and
advisers from Mineral Area College recognized for their
achievements. The conference theme was, “Missouri PBL:
Gateway to Greatness.”
Phi Beta Lambda is an educational association of postsecondary
student members preparing for careers in business. There
are over 11,000 active members in the US. Missouri has
nearly 400 members in 22 chapters. The conference featured
competitive events for individuals and teams, leadership
training, and election of officers for the next year.
Participating at the conference were MAC students Carolyn
Graham, Ste. Genevieve; Tracy Rentfro, Desloge, Grace
Childress, Farmington, Hope Motusic, Farmington, Remmington
Talley, Farmington, Amanda Hodges, Bismarck, Ashley Frye,
Potosi; Dawne Head, Potosi; Robert Ragan, Ironton, Matthew
Hill, Park Hills; and advisers Melynda Barks and Roger
McMillian.
Several students from MAC PBL were recognized at the
awards program. Rentfro placed 1st in the state in Justice
Administration. Head placed 3rd in the state in Justice
Administration. Hodges placed 2nd in the state in Computer
Concepts and placed 3rd in Word Processing. Graham placed
4th in International Business. Ragan placed 4th in Statistical
Analysis. The team of Frye and Hill placed 4th in Desktop
Publishing. These students have now qualified to participate
at the PBL National Conference to be held June 24-27 in
San Antonio, Texas.
The keynote speaker for the conference was Spencer Behrand,
National PBL president. His presentation focused on the
national PBL theme and provided insights for PBL members
as he used his experiences with PBL to motivate the students
and to encourage them to “Break Barriers” as begin their
careers.

Mineral Area College Phi Beta Lambda students

at the college level business organization’s state conference.
