Cigarette
Tax Could Increase by 73 Cents
April 29, 2012
Looking to increase state money,
a new proposal would increase the tax on each pack
of cigarettes by 73 cents.
Supporters want the issue to be settled by voters
in November. And if you smoke a pipe and think you
are free and clear, the proposal would increase
taxes on numerous tobacco products in addition to
cigarettes. |

Supporters believe the measure will pass because at 17
cents per pack, Missourians pay less in cigarette taxes
compared to smokers in other states. For example, New
York charges $4.35 in taxes on each pack of cigarettes.
